What is a standing desk?
A standing desk (sometimes referred to as a sit stand desk or height adjustable desk) allows office workers to stand up while working at a computer.ย Stand up desks have been available for years but are becoming more popular as people realise the benefits of standing while working.
Improved Health & Wellness
We know that too much sedentary time increases the risk of obesity, cardiovascular disease and unwanted health concerns. Studies have shown that standing desks can improve overall health and wellbeing, through increased energy, less fatigue.
By using a sit stand desk, office workers are more active, have better metabolic function and in turn can burn more calories and lower blood sugars. What a win!
Reduced Back Pain
Often sitting hunched over a desk but standing releases pressure on your neck and back. It is one of the most common complaints of office workers. Many studies have shown that standing at your desk for just over an hour a day can reduce neck and back pain by over 50%. If you can invest in a standing desk and alternate between sitting and standing every hour, your back will thank you for it!
Flexibility
A standing desk allows office workers to have the flexibility of keeping active throughout the day while still working at a desk. Although a standing desk has many health benefits, it is not ideal for every task, so it is important to choose a sit-stand or height adjustable desk so that you can easily switch between sitting and standing. The more popular models have motorised or electric functionality. If you are considering making the move to a sit-stand desk, it is recommended to ease into standing.
What are the best types of standing desks?
We recommend a motorised or electric sit stand desk as these offer more practical functionality. Our Federal Sit Stand Desk is one of our most popular sit stand desks as it has 4 programmable height settings with a digital display for sitting and standing. Some of our other economic and practical solutions include the Agile Boost Electric Desk and the compact Malmo Sit Stand Desk. These are perfect for the office or home office set up.
